Hirey's escrow system, ID verification, and dispute resolution are designed to protect every transaction. But your awareness is the strongest defense.
Always Use Escrow
Never pay a freelancer directly outside of Hirey. Our escrow system holds your money safely until the job is done to your satisfaction. If anyone asks you to pay via WhatsApp, bank transfer, or any method outside the platform — that is a red flag.
✓ Do
- Fund escrow only after both parties agree on the job scope
- Release escrow only when you've reviewed and approved the delivery
✗ Don't
- Pay upfront outside the platform
- Send "test payments" — legitimate freelancers never ask for these
Verify Before You Hire
Look for the blue verified badge on profiles — it means Hirey has confirmed the user's identity. Also check their reviews, completed job count, and how long they've been on the platform.
✓ Do
- Read reviews carefully before hiring
- Start with a small test task for new freelancers
- Ask for portfolio samples relevant to your job
✗ Don't
- Ignore a profile with zero reviews and no portfolio
- Hire based on price alone — suspiciously cheap offers are often scams
Recognise Scam Patterns
Common scams include asking for off-platform payment, sending suspicious links, claiming to be "Hirey Support" in chat, or offering unrealistically high pay for simple tasks.
✓ Do
- Report any user who asks for off-platform payment
- Verify links before clicking — use a link checker if unsure
✗ Don't
- Click links sent by strangers in chat
- Share your password, PIN, or bank OTP with anyone — Hirey staff will never ask
Keep Communication On-Platform
All conversations, agreements, and payments should happen inside Hirey. This creates a paper trail that protects you if a dispute arises. Moving off-platform removes all your protections.
✓ Do
- Document job scope and deliverables inside the Negotiate tool
- Use the built-in messaging to keep all communication traceable
✗ Don't
- Move conversations to WhatsApp or email before a job is agreed
- Share personal contact details before trust is established
